A history lesson…

When Tony Blair was running for leader Peter Mandelson’s support for him was regarded as so toxic it was kept a secret, instead, soft left wingers like Mo Mowlam and Robin Cook were the face of the Blair leadership campaign, while Mandelson was given a secret identity and a retina scanner to allow him into the ultra top secret meetings*.

This was done because it was thought that being seen as the candidate of the extreme “modernising” faction of the Labour party would be fatal.

Apparently the modernising wing of the Labour party is far more popular now and the contender who is publicly seen as the candidate of this group will be praised to the skies by  the party.

One has to assume this is what lies behind the briefings this weekend, cause otherwise they make little sense.

*joke.

  • Polly Toynbee says Milliband is on the left and that Asher bint said so as well today. I think he would be a vast improvement on Brown but only for the Labour Party. He is , if possible , even worse , for the country. What I am hoping for is for on -going in fighting and in-action. Then absolutely no-one will vote Labour

  • So that’s what that funny moustache was all about that he used to wear. It was part of his disguise!

  • Which modernising wing would that be, future-boy?

Bobby Shaftoe, I believe was the origination of that term. Possibly to do with his shafting of Brown? Or the fact that he would come back and marry TB?

    Who knows…
